The Minister of Information and Culture, Mohammed Idris, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to support state governments in Nigeria, irrespective of their political affiliations, to perform optimally. The statement was made during a meeting with the governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the Government House on Friday, where the minister disclosed that the Federal Government had already made investment commitments in different sectors such as manufacturing, telecoms, healthcare, oil, and gas, among others, which are currently being realized.
Idris also highlighted some of the economic achievements of the nation, stating that the Nigerian economy had grown by 3. percent (year-on-year) in Q4, 2023, compared to 2. percent in the preceding quarter. He also revealed that capital importation into Nigeria had increased by percent in Q4, 2023, compared to Q3, 2023, reversing a percentage decline in the previous quarter.
The Minister also commended President Bola Tinubu’s new oil and gas policy reformation programes, which he stated would generate a billion cubic feet per day additional gas supply, as well as create 2.3 million, thus boosting the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by $17 billion and compressing Nigeria’s oil and gas contracting cycle from 38 to six months.
Furthermore, President Tinubu reiterated his government’s commitment to support every citizen, regardless of party affiliations, to provide dividends of democracy. He assured Nigerians that the economic policies and programs introduced by the administration would make Nigeria better and that the government was working tirelessly to tackle the harsh effects of economic reforms.
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State also commended President Tinubu for reopening the nation’s borders, stating that the decision would help to alleviate the suffering among the masses. He also applauded the Minister for his efforts in amplifying the policies and programs of the Federal Government and expressed his support for the political commitment of the Federal Government to tackle the problems of insecurity through the use of technology, noting that the government had tried to tackle the bandits and kidnappers in about 10 local government areas of Kano State, despite the state being peaceful.
