The Nigerian Federal Government, in line with its “Renewed Hope Agenda” prioritizing infrastructure development, has announced the next phase of the highly anticipated Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project. This phase will see construction begin on sections 3 and 4, stretching from Cross River State to Akwa Ibom State.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, revealed these plans during a stakeholder engagement meeting held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday. Edet Ekpenyong, the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, released a statement outlining the details on Sunday.
Minister Umahi explained,
“We’re here to introduce Sections Three and Four of the renowned Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project. Section One, already underway, stretches 47.4 kilometres from Lagos to the Lagos Deep Sea Port. Section Two, in the planning stages, will connect the Lekki Deep Sea Port with the Dangote Refinery.”
In a significant change, President Bola Tinubu has directed construction for sections 3 and 4 to begin in Cross River State and conclude in Akwa Ibom State. This prioritization addresses concerns raised by stakeholders in the southern regions.

Detailed Breakdown of Sections 3 and 4
Minister Umahi further elaborated,
“Section Three comprises 27 kilometres within Akwa Ibom State and 38 kilometres within Cross River State. Section Four lies entirely within Akwa Ibom, spanning 80 kilometres. Combined, these sections total 107 kilometres, maximizing the benefits for these states.”
“Upon finalizing the procurement process and awarding contracts for sections 3 and 4, construction will commence simultaneously across multiple subsections. President Tinubu is known for his commitment to following through on his promises,”
Minister Umahi emphasized.
“We’re encouraged by the public’s support and the numerous advantages this coastal highway will bring.”
Present at the event, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended President Tinubu for acknowledging his plea to initiate construction in the southern states. He urged Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, to extend his full support to the Federal Government in ensuring the project’s success.
This development marks a significant step forward in the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. With sections 3 and 4 set to begin soon, the project promises to enhance transportation infrastructure, boost economic activity, and create lasting benefits for the southern states along the route.
