The Federal Government announced on Thursday that 25 million Nigerians have received the ₦25,000 conditional cash transfer designed to provide economic relief. This update came from the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, who addressed journalists following the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Highlighting the relief measures, Edun explained that five million households across Nigeria have benefited from the direct transfer initiative. Additionally, through the government’s consumer credit scheme, 11,000 beneficiaries have received ₦3.5 billion within the last five days. Moreover, over ₦90 billion has been allocated to support higher education, providing loans to around half a million students in need.
Flood Disaster Claims Hundreds of Lives and Displaces Over a Million
In addition to the economic relief updates, NEC shared concerning figures on the recent flooding, which has claimed 321 lives across 34 states, affecting over 1.2 million people who have been displaced from their homes. Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo emphasized the devastation to over one million houses and extensive farmland, noting that NEC is urging steps to ease the impact on affected citizens.
