In a move that has sparked widespread reactions, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members across Nigeria have reportedly received a monthly allowance of ₦33,000 for September, instead of the ₦77,000 approved in the recently announced increase.
The approved increment was expected to take effect immediately following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to review the earnings of corps members to better reflect the current economic realities.
Many corps’ members expressed their disappointment after receiving the unchanged stipend, which had been increased from ₦19,800 to ₦33,000 in 2020. The newly approved ₦77,000 was part of a series of reforms the Tinubu administration outlined to improve the welfare of youths serving the nation.
