The Minister of Works, Mr David Umahi, recently visited the construction site of the Lagos-Calabar Highway Coastal Road project to inspect the progress of work done. During the visit, Umahi officially handed over the site to Hitech Construction Nigeria Limited, the company in charge of the project.
The project was approved for construction by the Federal Executive Council on February 26th, 2021, and is expected to be completed within 36 months. The first phase of the project, which covers a distance of 47 kilometers, will begin in Lagos. Sections two and three will run concurrently with section one.
Emphasizing the importance of timely project completion, Umahi warned that no additional payments would be made for delays. As a policy of the Ministry of Works, they will not pay variation for any delayed projects. Hitech Construction Nigeria Limited is known for performance and beating time, so Umahi believes they will complete the project within the given timeframe.
Umahi handed over the site to Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) to ensure environmental compliance. He also advised Hitech to immediately begin work on the designated right of way and follow the realignment done from Kilometer 16, which was approved by President Bola Tinubu.
Umahi commended the Lagos State Government for making a section of the gazetted route free for the project, demonstrating the government’s support for its completion. He also expressed his satisfaction with the 1.3-kilometer completed dredging since the project’s award, indicating Hitech’s commitment to a speedy completion.
