Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an injunction stopping the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from disbursing monthly allocations to the Rivers State Government, led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The judge ruled that Fubara’s handling of state funds and his submission of the 2024 budget before only four members of the Rivers House of Assembly represent a serious violation of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution.
As part of this ruling, the court has also ordered the Accountant General, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank to prevent further withdrawals by Fubara from both the Consolidated Revenue Fund and the Federation Account. This decision aims to enforce adherence to constitutional guidelines and uphold transparency in governance.
Further updates on the ruling are expected as the case develops.
