The Federal High Court, Abuja, under the leadership of Justice John Tsoho, has released the annual vacation schedule for 2024 along with the roster of vacation judges.
In a statement issued on Monday by Catherine Christopher, the Assistant Director of Information/ICT, it was announced that the vacation period will span from Tuesday, the 23rd of July 2024 to Friday, the 13th of September 2024. Regular court proceedings will resume on Monday, the 16th of September 2024.
The statement emphasized that the vacation period is essential for judges to take a well-deserved rest and prepare for the tasks and responsibilities of the upcoming legal year.
During the vacation period, litigants with matters of extreme urgency are advised to approach only the functional courts among the three premier divisions, which are located nearest to them. These courts include those in Abuja, Lagos, and Port-Harcourt.
The appointed Vacation Judges for the Abuja division are Hon. Justice Emeka Nwite and Hon. Justice Peter O. Lifu. In Lagos, the Vacation Judges are Hon. Justice Akintayo Aluko and Hon. Justice Isaac D. Dipeolu. For Port-Harcourt, Hon. Justice A. T. Mohammed and Hon. Justice P. M. Ayua will serve as Vacation Judges.
This announcement aims to ensure the smooth functioning of the legal system during the vacation period while maintaining accessibility for urgent matters requiring judicial attention.
