The Federal Government has terminated contracts with three companies for the dualization of the Obajana-Benin Road due to non-performance.
The contracts affected are with Mothercat Ltd, Dantata & Sawoe Construction Ltd, and RCC Ltd, covering sections II, III, and IV of the roads.
In a statement on Monday, the Federal Ministry of Works highlighted that the terminated projects include:
– Section II (Okene-Auchi) in Kogi/Edo State.
– Section III (Auchi-Ehor) in Edo State.
– Section IV (Ehor-Benin) in Edo State.
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, explained that the contracts were terminated due to the companies’ delays and failure to fulfill their contractual obligations.
The projects, awarded on December 3, 2012, had been abandoned by the contractors, causing significant hardship for road users due to the deplorable conditions.

The minister’s spokesperson, Uchenna Orji, noted that the contractors showed no genuine commitment to executing the projects, resulting in the expiration of the contracts.
Umahi directed engineers to take over the sites and works from the affected companies and conduct joint measurements of the work done so far.
Umahi emphasized that his ministry would not tolerate unseriousness or sabotage by contractors and would continue to terminate non-performing projects funded by the government.
