The Lagos Police Command has successfully facilitated the return of N1 million extorted from three National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members by four police officers in Surulere.
The officers allegedly demanded the money after the corps members failed to produce a physical copy of their driver’s license. One of the corps members was also forced to transfer Bitcoin worth $842 to the officers.
According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, the officers involved have been identified and are undergoing interrogation. The outcome of the internal trial will determine their culpability, and they could face dismissal depending on the results.

Oluyemi Fasipe, who brought attention to the incident, appreciated the efforts of Hundeyin and the Lagos State NYSC office in facilitating the refund. Fasipe tweeted, “The rogue men of the Area C command of the @LagosPoliceNG who extorted over 1 million naira from the corp members have refunded the money. I am patiently waiting for the outcome of their trial.”
