Former Ogun State governor, Senator Gbenga Daniel has voluntarily given up his pensions and allowances after his swearing in as a Senator.
Senator Daniel made the revelation in a tweet on Thursday.
“After my inauguration at the Senate, I wrote H.E Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, CON on June 14, 2023, to notify him of my decision to have the monthly payment of N676,376.95kobo being gross payment for my pension and allowances as former governor of the Ogun State suspended immediately,” he said.
The former governor said he made the decision in good conscience, moral principles and guiding ethics.
“It is also important to state that this is the only payment and package I get from the state government as a former governor,” Senator Daniel said.
Recall that Nigerians have always been critical of former governors who found themselves in the senate for taking pensions alongside their accruals from the parliament.
The decision taken by Senator Daniel would make the first time a former governor would publicly jettison his entitlements as a lawmaker.
