Norwegian footballer Erling Haaland could face a charge from the Football Association (FA) after he took to social media to express his dissatisfaction with referee Simon Hooper’s performance during Manchester City’s 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Hooper booked Haaland for dissent on the pitch after he protested the referee’s failure to play advantage following a foul on him by Emerson Royal, with Jack Grealish bearing down on goal in added time.
Haaland was visibly furious and engaged in a heated exchange with Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso as he left the pitch.
He then continued his tirade by posting an image of the incident on social media with the caption ‘WTF’ – an abbreviation for ‘What The F—k’.
When asked about Haaland’s reaction after the match, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola described it as a normal reaction.
He also expressed his disappointment with the referee’s decision, stating that even the referee, if he played for Manchester City, would be disappointed with that action.
Guardiola further added that it was hard to understand the referee’s decision to blow the whistle after he had already signalled to play on.
Manchester City have now drawn their last three Premier League games, including a 4-4 draw with Chelsea and a 1-1 draw against Liverpool.
The reigning Treble winners are currently three points behind league leaders Arsenal in the standings.
