Nottingham Forest’s manager, Steve Cooper, has reportedly been saved from imminent sacking following his team’s draw at Wolves on Saturday.
CRUX NEWS had earlier reported that he would not survive a fifth straight Premier League defeat.
The club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, had been said to be seriously contemplating sacking Cooper, but it seems that the team’s performance and result at Molineux have placated Marinakis to some degree, and he has now decided to shelve any plans to sack Cooper in the coming days.
Marinakis was impressed by the spirit and fight shown by Forest’s players in the 1-1 draw, which is believed to have shown that they still have belief in Cooper.
Cooper’s name was sung throughout the trip to Molineux by Forest fans, who were pleased with the team’s performance.
After waving to the away end at full-time, Cooper denied he was saying goodbye to supporters during his post-match press conference.
Before the draw with Wolves, it was reported that Forest’s hierarchy was increasingly of the belief that fresh ideas were needed and that there was a difference in opinion between the coaching staff and players over tactics.
Forest’s bosses were also said to fear that Cooper was becoming increasingly worn down and frustrated in the job.
Despite all the noise, which the team has kept out of the training ground, Cooper managed to lead his team to a draw against Wolves, which he considered a positive away point.
The manager was proud of his team and how they played, and he saluted the Forest fans at the final whistle, beating his hand emotionally against his chest.
Cooper spoke to reporters after full-time, saying that the game was a testament to how together everyone is at the club.
Forest’s next game is at home to Tottenham on Friday, and the team will be looking to build on their recent performance.
