Liverpool tried to mount a comeback, but their efforts were in vain as substitute Leandro Trossard sealed the victory for Arsenal with a stoppage-time goal that went through Alisson’s legs.
The match wasn’t without its controversies, as Liverpool’s frustrations boiled over in the closing minutes, with Ibrahima Konate receiving a second booking after a foul on Kai Havertz, resulting in his sending off.
With this win, Arsenal moved up to the second spot with 49 points, just two points behind Liverpool’s 51 points, with both teams having played 23 games.
The reigning champions Manchester City, who play on Monday, have 46 points from 21 games.
