Fulham and Everton, two struggling teams in the Premier League, played out a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Craven Cottage on Tuesday.
The visitors were fortunate to walk away with a potentially vital point after facing sustained pressure in the all-action second half.
Both teams had been on a poor league run before the match, having also been eliminated from the FA Cup over the weekend.
The lack of form was evident in a cagey first half where deflections led to the best chances but were cleared off the line at both ends.
The second half was much more lively, with both teams striking the woodwork and Everton goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, producing a brilliant save to deny Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo’s header.
Fulham was relentlessly attacking but could not quite manage to find the decisive touch to seal the win.
As a result of the draw and Luton’s big victory over Brighton, Everton was dragged back into the relegation zone.
This is a worrying sign for the team, whose 10-point deduction initially seemed to motivate them into a hot streak before Christmas but now appears to be weighing heavily on their performance.
