The Enugu State Government is working with the families of late Nollywood actors, John Okafor (Mr. Ibu) and Obumneme Odonwodo (Junior Pope), to ensure they receive a dignified burial.
According to the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Aka Eze Aka, the government is committed to honoring the actors’ memories.
He revealed that the state government will be represented at Mr. Ibu’s burial on June 28 and is working closely with Junior Pope’s family to plan his burial, with no date fixed yet.
Aka explained that the government’s initial delay in responding to Junior Pope’s death was due to uncertainty surrounding the circumstances of his passing and ensuring sensitivity towards the family’s feelings.
He emphasized that the government is now focused on giving him a fitting farewell.
The commissioner also highlighted Governor Peter Mbah’s commitment to developing the entertainment industry in Enugu State, including plans for an entertainment village to retain local talent.
Junior Pope, from Ukehe in Igbo-Etiti Council Area, and three colleagues tragically lost their lives in a boat accident on April 10.
Mr. Ibu, from Amuri in Nkanu West Council Area, passed away on March 2 after battling health issues.
