Harry Kane responded to criticism from former England players regarding the team’s lacklustre performances at Euro 2024, emphasizing the challenges of representing their country.
England’s campaign for their first European Championship title began with underwhelming matches against Serbia and Denmark, drawing criticism from ex-players and now pundits, including Gary Lineker, Rio Ferdinand, and Alan Shearer.
On Sunday, Kane expressed his thoughts, saying,
“Former players have a duty to be honest in their opinions, but they must also recognize their influence and the weight their words carry as ex-England players whom current players look up to.”

Addressing rumours about a lingering back injury from the Bundesliga season, Kane reassured that he is fully fit.
He also pointed out that these pundits had not won international trophies themselves, stating,
“I would never want to be disrespectful to any player, especially a player who has worn the shirt and knows what it is like to play for England,”
“(But) the bottom line is we haven’t won anything as a nation for a long, long time and a lot of these players were part of that as well and they know how tough it is.”
Despite their shaky start, England currently tops Group C with four points and is set to face Slovenia in Cologne on Tuesday for their final group-stage match.
