After initially resisting a Brazilian court order to block certain accounts, Elon Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), has pledged to comply with all future rulings from the Supreme Court and the top electoral court.
This reversal follows a dispute last week where X challenged a decision by Justice Alexandre de Moraes to remove specific accounts. Musk, a vocal advocate for free speech, deemed the order unconstitutional.
X’s Brazilian unit previously claimed it couldn’t guarantee compliance due to the company’s U.S. headquarters.
However, facing potential legal consequences, X has now committed to following Brazilian court orders.
Despite X’s compliance, the legal battle isn’t over.
Moraes is still investigating X and Musk for potentially obstructing justice.
Additionally, a U.S. congressional committee has subpoenaed X for information on the Brazilian court’s content moderation demands.
X will keep the Brazilian court informed of any developments related to the U.S. subpoena.
