The electricity consumer base expanded by 410,000, rising from 11.71 million in the third quarter of 2023 to 12.12 million in the fourth quarter.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported in its Q4 2023 Electricity Report, released in Abuja on Monday, that this marked a 3.46 percent increase.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the review highlighted energy billed, revenue generated, and customer numbers for DISCOS during the period.
Year-on-year, the report showed a 9.59 percent rise in electricity customers in Q4 2023, up from 11.06 million in Q4 2022.
The report noted that metered customers numbered 5.61 million in Q4 2023, a slight decrease of 1.32 percent from 5.68 million in Q3 2023.
However, compared to the 5.13 million metered customers in Q4 2022, there was a 9.38 percent increase year-on-year, the NBS stated.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, the estimated number of electricity customers was 5.83 million, marking a 3.34 percent decrease from the 6.03 million recorded in the third quarter of 2023. Year-on-year, the estimated customer count fell by 1.73 percent from 5.93 million in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported that electricity distribution companies generated N294.95 billion in revenue in the fourth quarter of 2023, an increase from N260.16 billion in the third quarter. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, revenue rose by 26.96 percent from N232.32 billion.
Electricity supply reached 6,432 Gwh in the last quarter of 2023, up from 5,732 Gwh in the previous quarter. On a year-on-year basis, there was a 14.64 percent increase in electricity supply in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared to 5,611 Gwh in the same quarter of the previous year.
