On Monday, in a highly anticipated Egyptian Super Cup semi-final, Modern Future and Pyramids faced off in a nerve-wracking shootout that resulted in a 14-13 win for Modern Future after 34 penalty kicks were taken.
The game had ended in a 0-0 draw, leading to a nail-biting penalty shootout.
Modern Future will now advance to the final where they will face either Al Ahly or Ceramica Cleopatra.
During the shootout, Modern Future missed three penalty kicks while Pyramids missed four, including the decisive one that sealed victory for Future, which was taken by Pyramids defender Osama Galal.
It might have felt like the shootout was never-ending, but it was well short of the 54 penalties taken in a local cup match in England last year when Washington FC beat Bedlington Terriers 25-24.
Interestingly, in a 2005 Namibian Cup match between KK Palace and Civics, a total of 48 penalties were taken.
