The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of N2.5 billion in campaign funds by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the 2023 elections.
The investigation also addresses the failure of the Kwankwaso-led National Working Committee to pay party agents who worked during the presidential and governorship elections.
Reliable sources indicate that the anti-graft agency has summoned the party’s National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, to substantiate fraud allegations against Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his Private Secretary, Mrs. Folashade Aliu, who is suspected of being a conduit for the misappropriation of party funds through a secret campaign donations account.
Oginni’s petition further implicates other signatories to the NNPP’s bank account, including Prof. Rufai Alkali, Abba Kawu, and Dipo Olayokun. Concerns have been raised about Dipo Olayokun’s sudden acquisition of properties in prime areas of Abuja within two years of his tenure as a signatory to the party’s account.
In a phone interview with Vanguard, Comrade Oginni confirmed his visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja to provide statements and clarifications on the petition, alleging that Senator Kwankwaso and his team were involved in a N2.5 billion fraud.
“Indeed, I was invited by the EFCC. I honored the invitation and was impressed with the professionalism of the EFCC officers. I answered questions related to the petition on behalf of the NNPP without any harassment or intimidation,” Oginni stated. He expressed confidence in the EFCC’s commitment to addressing corruption without bias.
With the ongoing investigation and the confirmed invitation of the NNPP’s National Secretary, it is clear that Senator Kwankwaso’s appearance before the anti-graft agency to clear his name is imminent.
