The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned two Chinese nationals, Duan Ya Hong and Xiao Yi, along with their company, Ebuy Concept Limited, before a Federal High Court in Ilorin for alleged illegal mining activities.
They face a single charge of possessing solid minerals without a license and failing to pay royalties to the Federal Government, as mandated by law.
The commission disclosed this in a post on their official handle on Thursday, April 25. An excerpt from the post states: “On Monday, April 22, 2024, the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC arraigned Duan Ya Hong and Xiao Yi, along with Ebuy Concept Limited, before Justice Evelyn Anyadike at the Federal High Court in Ilorin for alleged illegal mining activities.
They were specifically charged with possessing solid minerals without a license and not paying royalties to the Federal Government, as required by law.
The charge reads: ‘You, Ebuy Trading Worldwide Nig. LTD, Duan Ya Hong, Xiao Yi, in February 2024 at Banni, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, within the jurisdiction of this court, unlawfully purchased 30 tons of minerals transported in a truck with Registration Number JJJ 386 XT, committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 1(8)(b) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, 1984.'”
