In response to the suspension, the legislative leaders of each council have been instructed to assume control of their local government areas for the duration of the two-month period.

The resolution was initiated by Isibor Adeh, representing Esan North East 1, and received support from Donald Okogbe of Akoko-Edo 2, leading to its passage in the assembly.
Governor’s Accusation
The move came after Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo accused the local government officials of failing to provide financial records to the state government, labeling their actions as insubordinate and improper.
Voting Breakdown
During the debate, the assembly saw a split with 14 members voting in favor of the suspension, six against, and three abstaining from the vote.
Procedural Conduct
Speaker Blessing Agbebaku ensured every member voiced their opinion on the issue before a vote was called. The clerk, Yahaya Omogbai, then conducted a head count to tally the votes for and against the motion.
