The Labour Party in Edo State has suspended its national chairman, Julius Abure. This follows the ratification of Abure’s suspension from membership in Arue, Ward 3, Esan North-East Local Government Area, as stated in a letter dated May 14, 2024, addressed to Abure.
During a press conference in Benin City, the state capital, on Friday night, attended by state and local government leaders and party members, LP Esan Northeast LG Chairman, Patrick Onogbenin, revealed that he had received a letter from the Ward 3 Chairman, Thompson Ehiguese, on May 14, detailing Abure’s suspension.
Onogbenin mentioned that after discussing the issues with other local government party executives and finding the reasons for suspension substantial, he wrote to the state executive for ratification. Kelly Ogbaloi, the state chairman of the Labour Party, stated that after reviewing the letters and the reasons for suspension, the state executive had no option but to ratify the suspension, which was already endorsed at the local government level.

He expressed the state executive council’s reluctance to adopt such measures but emphasized the necessity due to the suspension originating from Abure’s home ward.
Consequently, the state executive committee ratified the suspension, officially suspending Abure from the membership of Ward 3, Arue, Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government, Edo State.
“The decision was made following thorough deliberation by the ward members, taking into account your authoritarian approach, activities against the party’s interests during its administration, and the numerous allegations of fraud currently being investigated against you.
