Residents of Ewohimi in the Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State have declared their strong backing for Asue Ighodalo, the PDP’s candidate for the upcoming governorship election on September 21, 2024. They have committed to delivering a unified vote from their community. They argue that the persistent criticisms aimed at Ighodalo and his deputy, Osarodion Ogie, are driven by the opposition’s anxiety about a likely defeat, particularly from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The community members emphasized Ighodalo’s long-term commitment to resolving local issues and providing necessary amenities without seeking publicity. They are enthusiastic about his candidacy and have pledged their full support for him and his running mate.
Moreover, they accused the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, of attempting to discredit Ighodalo’s community efforts and philanthropic activities because of the potential threat of losing the election.

These statements were made in response to opposition allegations that Ighodalo has never connected with his Ewohimi roots and would therefore lack local support in the election.
Mr Odion Samson, a community member, commended Ighodalo’s accomplishments in both the private sector and governance, expressing faith in his capacity to lead the state towards progress and development. Mrs Ailodin Itolo, another resident, described Ighodalo as a symbol of hope, highlighting his support for development projects and scholarships for students. She recalled his significant assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the distribution of food supplies, and urged everyone to vote for him and his running mate, stressing their dedication to aiding Edo State.
Itolo recounted,
“What Asuelime did for us, only God will bless him. I went to his compound to cry for help, and he assisted me and my family. Now I can eat and talk. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also helped the community, bringing more than three truckloads of food. We all prayed for his success in the September 21 governorship election. I enjoin everyone to please vote for him and his running mate because they have come to help Edo State.”
