ECOWAS is gearing up for its extraordinary session of the 6th legislature, set to take place in Kano. The announcement came via a statement from Ismail Mudashir, the Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate, Abuja, on Friday.
President Tinubu attended the inaugural session of the Sixth Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament back in April, where Senator Barau Jibrin of Nigeria emerged as the First Deputy Speaker.
Parliamentarians from Nigeria and other ECOWAS member states including Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, and others are expected to attend the session.
The ECOWAS Parliament, also known as the Community Parliament, plays a pivotal role in fostering dialogue, consultation, and consensus among West African representatives to promote regional integration. Established under Articles 6 and 13 of the ECOWAS revised treaty of 1993, it comprises 115 seats.
