Governor Nwifuru Addresses Payment Delays
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has raised alarms over the tardiness in disbursing salaries and pensions to local government employees, labeling the situation as “worrisome.”
Deadline Set for Local Government Chairmen
In response, Governor Nwifuru has issued a strict directive to the leaders of all 13 local government areas within the state. They are required to clear all pending salary and pension payments by 2 pm on Monday, December 23, 2024. This directive was communicated through a statement from the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
Commitment to Good Governance
The Governor underscored his dedication to implementing governance that fulfills the ‘people’s charter of needs.’ He made it clear that no sabotage would be tolerated in fulfilling the government’s social contract with its citizens.

Ultimatum to Local Government Officials
The statement released on Sunday highlighted, “By 2 pm tomorrow, all the staff of the Local Government should receive their salaries and pensions.” Governor Nwifuru further asserted, “We are determined to deliver good governance to our people. If you are for us, you join us in what we are doing; if you are not, you leave.”
Consequences for Non-Compliance
He warned, “If by 2 pm tomorrow, staff are not paid October and November salaries, the chairmen should resign,” setting a clear ultimatum for the local government chairmen. This comes as local government workers in Ebonyi State are currently owed for the months of October and November.
