On Monday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 struck North Maluku province, an Indonesian province located in the northern part of the Maluku islands.
The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported the earthquake, while the Indonesian Geological Agency pegged the magnitude at 5.9.
The quake’s epicenter was located 11 km (6.8 miles) northeast of Jailolo on Halmahera island, at a depth of 168 km.
According to reports, the earthquake was felt in several cities in North Maluku and North Sulawesi, which lies to the west of the epicenter.

Though there have been no immediate reports of deaths or major damages, a sports center was reportedly damaged in Manado, a city in North Sulawesi.
Boy Telu, a member of staff at a hotel in the town of Jailolo, confirmed that residents felt the quake, but he did not see any immediate damage.
In North Sulawesi’s Manado, the quake was felt strongly and caused some panic, with a video uploaded on Instagram showing some residents pouring out of a cinema.
Indonesia is located in an area of high seismic activity known as the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is situated atop multiple tectonic plates.
