MultiChioce on Wednesday announced its exit from Malawi following a High Court ruling opposing the company’s decision to increase the price for DStv service in the country.
MultiChoice had in July hiked DStv tariffs.
But Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) obtained an injunction against the hike and the company obtained a stay in order to allow it to comply with the injunction.
The Court in its ruling on Tuesday ordered Multichoice to comply with the interim order.
The company has stopped new subscriptions or reconnections on Wednesday August 9, as all ongoing subscriptions will be honoured until September 10, 2023, Business Day reports.
Meanwhile, MACRA Director General, Daud Suleman in a statement said it expects MultiChioce Malawi to implement the court order without delay since any person who disobeys the court order may be charged with contempt of court.
