Moment after encounter with personnel of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS), operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) on Tuesday re-arrested the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele at the premises of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Emefiele’s re-arrest took place shortly after its operatives physically fought off men of the NCS who attempted to take the suspended CBN governor away in compliance with the order of Justice Nicholas Oweibo.
Justice Oweibo had granted Emefiele bail in the sum of N20million with one surety in like sum after his arraignment by the Federal Government on a two-count charge of possession of a firearm without a license.
The CRUX had reported that the presiding judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, in a ruling on Tuesday, granted the embattled suspended CBN governor bail in the sum of N20 million, saying the charges against him are bailable.
Emefiele had pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge bordering on alleged illegal possession of firearms preferred against him by the DSS.

The bail was granted after the rejection of claim by the Federal Government that it had not received a copy of the bail application filed by Emefiele, in his alleged gun possession trial.
Indications that operatives of the secret police were lurking to rearrest Emefiele emerged shortly after the court’s ruling with the presence of well-armed operatives milling around the entrance door to the court room.
The DSS positioned their security Toyota Hilux jeep close to the entrance of the court and refused to leave the court premises.
Sensing the agenda of the DSS, operatives of the Nigeria Correctional Service decided to weigh in, insisting that the court order expressly ordered them to have custody of Emefiele.
This caused confusion between the two agencies of the Federal Government leading to throwing punches and harassing officials in the public.
Meanwhile, Emefiele’s lawyers are still seated in the court while the judge is trying to prevail on the DSS to allow the defendant perfect his bail terms instead of re-arresting him.
