The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has expressed strong disapproval of the joint military exercise called Freedom Shield conducted by the United States and South Korea.
According to the DPRK, the exercise will increase the unpredictability of the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
The annual springtime war game, which has doubled in size compared to last year, included plans for outdoor mobile drills and involved the armed forces of 11 satellite countries under the “UN Command”.
The DPRK’s Ministry of National Defense spokesperson stated on Monday that these mobilizations were done without any apparent justification for their existence.
The spokesperson further criticized the joint military exercise, stating that “the large-scale war drills staged by the world’s biggest nuclear weapons state and more than 10 satellite states against a state in the Korean Peninsula, where a nuclear war may be ignited even with a spark, can never be called defensive.”
The DPRK Ministry of National Defense called the United States and South Korea’s military drills reckless and undisguised and warned them to stop their moves that caused further provocation and instability.
The joint exercise began on Monday and is set to last for 11 days, according to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The DPRK has strongly denounced the exercise as it believes that it will only worsen the situation and increase tensions in the Korean Peninsula.
