Blessing Etim, the captain of Nigeria’s women’s cricket team, expressed her deep disappointment in their poor batting performance during the ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 Women’s World Cup Global Qualification in Uganda.
She identified their mistakes and weaknesses in the competition.
The Nigeria women’s cricket team suffered a heavy six-wicket defeat against hosts Uganda in their last group B match on Thursday.
Despite this, Etim remained optimistic and believed that her team had performed well in all their games and still had a chance to win the competition.
Etim admitted that their batting did not go according to plan due to some fundamental errors made by their batters.
She acknowledged that they had learned their lessons and would go back to the drawing board to improve on their games.
She also added that there was no need to panic, and they had identified their mistakes, which they would work on to correct before the African Games in Ghana in 2024.
Etim believed that her team could perform well in the forthcoming games and represent Nigeria well in the competition.
The Nigeria women’s cricket team is expected to participate in the African Games in 2024, and Etim believed that they would do well as a team.
She thanked the federation for acknowledging their players’ efforts by giving them the Best Player award.
Furthermore, she noted that this recognition would motivate the players to perform better in the future.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier started on December 9 and will end on December 17 at the Entebbe Cricket Oval in Uganda.
The tournament featured eight teams divided into two groups: Group A (Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Botswana, and Kenya) and Group B (Nigeria, Rwanda, Namibia, and hosts Uganda).
The finalists in Division One will progress to the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier.
