The PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) National Under 17 Cricket Championship is set to commence its fifth edition on Jan. 20, with an impressive number of 812 players expected to participate.
This event is a crucial part of the grassroots development of cricket in Nigeria, attracting more participation than anticipated, according to Emeka Igwilo, the General Manager of the Federation.
The zonal elimination is scheduled to happen concurrently across the six geo-political zones of Nigeria from Jan. 20 to Jan. 28, and it is expected to produce the regional finalists that will feature in the finals in February in Abuja.

It is worth noting that the girls’ event has registered 25 states, while the boys’ category has registered 33.
Igwilo emphasized that the continual supply of grassroots talent is one of the key achievements of this event, which eventually fills up the national teams.
It also complements all the efforts of development officers across the country.
It is noteworthy that the South-South zone are the defending champions in both male and female categories, and the anticipation for this year’s edition of the PwC National Under 17 Cricket Championship is high.
