Carney Chukwuemeka is one of the nominees for Chelsea’s Player of the Month for August.
The Blues have shortlisted six of their best efforts across the club in the first month of the season, and Chukwuemeka made the cut for his first senior goal in a Premier League fixture against West Ham United on August 20th.
He was nominated for his excellent goal in the Blues’ 3-1 loss to London rivals, West Ham United.
In the 28th minute, he cut inside onto his right foot with a little drop of the shoulder and hit an unstoppable drive past West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola to equalize for the visitors.
It was the first senior goal for the Nigerian-born midfielder at Chelsea.
Unfortunately, Chukwuemeka sustained an injury towards the end of the first half and was substituted for Mykallio Mudryk.
The youngster is currently out of action due to the injury, but he is expected to return for Chelsea after the international break.
Chukwuemeka’s injury came at the worst possible time because he was pushing for a spot in Chelsea’s starting lineup, having started their first two games in the Premier League.
The 19-year-old missed two consecutive Premier League games against Luton Town and Nottingham Forest, as well as the League Cup win against AFC Wimbledon.
