The Chinese medical team in Ghana has been making significant contributions to the Ghanaian healthcare system. The 12th batch of Chinese medical practitioners has been stationed at LEKMA Hospital, a general hospital in Ghana, where they have been providing vital medical assistance to the local community. Over the past year, the team has focused on improving radiology services at the hospital, which has benefited thousands of patients.
Before the team arrived, the hospital was facing severe challenges in disease diagnosis due to the lack of radiology equipment and techniques. The hospital had only one X-ray machine, which was not sufficient to meet the growing demands of patients. However, under the leadership of Du Yushan, the team’s leader and a radiologist himself, the Chinese medical team has been able to make the most of the existing equipment and expand medical examinations such as the esophagus checkup.
The team has also helped the hospital establish an effective system for filing radiology reports to better describe patients’ conditions, which has allowed for more accurate disease diagnoses. According to Du, the improved system has enabled the hospital to provide prompt checkup results for acute diseases, which helps doctors make rapid diagnoses.
The hospital’s deputy chief radiographer, Dennis Amartey Ahia, has expressed his gratitude for the support provided by the Chinese medical team. Ahia highlighted that the hospital has been fortunate over the years to have a radiologist among the doctors of every batch of Chinese medical practitioners. This has been a critical intervention for patients, given the limited number of radiologists in the country.
Ahia also noted that the Chinese medical team’s support has brought economic benefits to the locals. The hospital provides services at subsidized rates, making it more affordable for patients to access quality healthcare services. This has helped the locals save money and improve their overall well-being.
The current Chinese medical team, consisting of 11 medical specialists from Guangdong Province in south China, will wrap up their year-long mission in late March. Their contributions have been invaluable, and their efforts are sure to leave a lasting impact on the healthcare system of Ghana.
