Chelsea has successfully secured the services of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia in a £58m deal, beating out competition from Liverpool.
Although the Reds had reportedly offered a deal worth £60m, Lavia ultimately chose to sign with Chelsea instead.
The young talent has signed a seven-year contract with the Blues, adding to their already impressive midfield lineup following their £115m signing of Moises Caicedo from Brighton.
Lavia’s football career began in the Anderlecht youth system, where he honed his skills for eight years before joining Manchester City at the tender age of 16.
However, despite being part of a Premier League championship-winning squad
, Lavia only managed to make one senior appearance for the Citizens before being transferred to Southampton.
Despite the Saints’ relegation last season, Lavia’s performances in midfield caught the attention of both Chelsea and Liverpool.
In a transfer saga that also involved Moises Caicedo, Lavia ultimately chose to reject Liverpool in favour of joining Chelsea.
Fans of the London club will be eager to see the young midfielder make his debut against West Ham in the upcoming Premier League fixture on Sunday.

With the addition of Lavia and Caicedo, it will be interesting to see how Chelsea’s midfield evolves over the course of the season.
