Mr Joseph Gokum, Chairman of the Plateau House of Assembly Committee on Sports, has pledged to enhance budgetary allocation for the state’s sports sector to boost the development of sports in the state.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Jos, Gokum expressed his confidence in the newly elected officials of the Plateau Football Association, who he believed possess the technical know-how to deliver on their mandate.
Suleiman Kwande, a former member of the House of Representatives, was elected as the FA Chairman alongside other officials in a peaceful election on Thursday.
Gokum described the newly elected officials as thoroughbred football technocrats and noted that his committee would collaborate with them to develop football in Plateau State.

The Chairman emphasized his desire to see Plateau indigenes play in the Super Eagles and clubs abroad, which would bring income to the state economy.
He said that the committee would embark on familiarization visits to assess sports facilities in the state as part of their oversight function, adding that this would help the committee make informed decisions on how to develop sports in the state.
Finally, Gokum congratulated the newly elected officials and urged them to focus on discovering indigenous talents who could become national and international stars.
With this, the Plateau state’s sports sector is poised for a brighter future.
