Chief Pete Edochie, born March 7, 1947, in Zaria, Kaduna State, is one of Nigeria’s most iconic actors. Starting his career in radio broadcasting, he held senior roles at the Anambra Broadcasting Service before transitioning to Nollywood, where he skyrocketed to fame with his role as Okonkwo in Things Fall Apart.
Pete was known for his deep voice, charisma, and wisdom, he has won numerous awards, including the Industry Merit Award from Africa Magic and the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON). In 2005, he faced a one-year filming ban over high fees but remained a beloved figure in the industry.

Edochie, married to Josephine with six children, survived a 2009 kidnapping ordeal and was released unharmed. Recently, he endorsed Wikimedia’s efforts in Nigeria and was honored with the African Film Legend Award in 2020. His enduring legacy lies not only in his rich contributions to film but also in his influence on future generations, solidifying him as an icon in African cinema.
