The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, has appealed to Nigerians, particularly the youth, to remain in the country amidst a surge in emigration trends, popularly referred to as “Japa.”
Speaking at an event on Friday, Dr. Cardoso reassured citizens that the apex bank is working tirelessly to stabilize the economy and create opportunities for everyone to thrive.
“We understand the challenges Nigerians are facing, but I urge you not to give up on Nigeria. The CBN is committed to building a sustainable economy where every Nigerian can succeed,” he said.
Tackling Economic Challenges
Cardoso highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at addressing key economic issues, including inflation, unemployment, and currency stabilization. He emphasized that the CBN is implementing policies to ensure long-term growth and financial stability.
“We are creating an environment where businesses can flourish, and Nigerians will no longer feel the need to seek opportunities elsewhere,” he added.
Youth Exodus and Economic Stability
The CBN governor’s plea comes amidst increasing concerns over the “brain drain” caused by the mass exodus of skilled professionals seeking better prospects abroad. Analysts have often linked the trend to economic instability and insecurity, but Cardoso expressed optimism that with current efforts, Nigeria is on the path to recovery.
