Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has expressed his desire to put an end to the recent controversy surrounding forward, Marcus Rashford.
The 26-year-old was dropped from the FA Cup match against Newport County after he reportedly missed training last Friday and was spotted at nightspots in Belfast earlier in the week.
However, Ten Hag has stated that Rashford has taken ownership of his behaviour and the matter is now closed.
Despite scoring only four goals this season, Rashford’s off-field antics have brought further scrutiny and criticism.
Ten Hag has criticized Rashford’s decision to attend a nightclub party after October’s 3-0 derby defeat to Manchester City and stories have emerged in recent days of more late-night exploits.
Ahead of the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, United will have goalkeeper Andre Onana available.
Onana featured in just one of Cameroon’s four games at the Africa Cup of Nations, where they went out in the last 16.
When asked if Rashford’s behaviour shows a lack of respect for the club, Ten Hag replied that they need to focus on the game and winning football matches.
The manager emphasized that every top professional knows what is required, both on and off the pitch, and that discipline is crucial.
Despite their struggles this season, Ten Hag has highlighted the fact that Rashford has scored in each of their last two league games and is developing a strong bond with fellow forward, Rasmus Hojlund.
However, United slipped to ninth in the Premier League standings after Newcastle United’s win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday, and they are currently 11 points behind fourth-place Aston Villa. Wolves are 11th.
Nevertheless, Ten Hag has stated that his side does not lack confidence and believes that they can beat anyone on their best days.
He also added that players are returning from long-term injuries, which will make the team stronger and help boost the team’s motivation, mood, and spirit.
