Cameroon’s senior men’s basketball team has emerged victorious with a resounding 104-74 win over Guinea in the ongoing 2023 FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying tournament.
This matchup was the first round of playoffs for a coveted ticket to the basketball event of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The game began with Cameroon and Guinea competing neck and neck in the first quarter.
Both teams brought their best to outplay each other, resulting in a close score of 19-20 in favour of Guinea.
However, Cameroon took control in the second quarter, employing quick ball rotation and ensuring that their three-pointers were on point.
Cameroon’s impressive charge in the second quarter instilled a sense of belief in the team, which they carried forward for the rest of the game.
The team continued to excel in the three-point line, resulting in an emphatic victory that put them in a comfortable position for the final group game match.
Alfred Rolland, the head coach of Cameroon, attributed the team’s success to hard work and better team chemistry.
He explained that his team’s aggressive defence, coupled with their height advantage and physical size over Guinea, enabled them to take the game beyond their opponents.
Overall, Cameroon’s performance was a testament to their skill, determination, and teamwork.
“We did well today, I give kudos to my team; this is what we trained hard for and I really appreciate my team’s character and tactical discipline.
“We can build on this result and get good results in subsequent games to come,” Rolland said.
Guinea’s head coach, Zeijko Zecevic, heaped praises on Cameroon and admitted his team lost to a better team.
“We could have done better, it’s a game that was beyond us. We give credit to Cameroon, they were the better side,” Zecevic said.
