The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 has come to an end, and the CAF Technical Study Group (“TSG”) has released the Best XI for the tournament.
The TSG has been following and analyzing the competition and its trends since day one.
The tournament was widely regarded as the best “AFCON” ever, and the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, emerged as the new African champions after completing one of the greatest comebacks in history by winning against Nigeria in an epic final at Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
The Best XI comprises players from the top-performing teams in the tournament, with three players from each of the champions, Cote d’Ivoire, and runners-up, Nigeria.
South Africa, who finished third, and DR Congo, who finished fourth, also had players in the Best XI.
The Best XI includes Ronwen Williams from South Africa in goal, with Ola Aina and William Troost-Ekong from Nigeria showcasing their defensive prowess in the backline alongside Cote d’Ivoire’s Ghislan Konan and DR Congo’s Chancel Mbemba.
In midfield, the Best XI boasts a diverse array of talent, with South Africa’s Teboho Mokoena providing defensive stability alongside Cote d’Ivoire’s Jean Michael Seri and Franck Kessie, who scored the winning goal in the final.
The striking duo of DR Congo’s Yoane Wissa and Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman bring flair and potency to the forward line, complemented by Equatorial Guinea’s Emilio Nsue, who was the top scorer of the competition with five goals, despite his team not reaching the semi-finals.
Overall, the Best XI is a testament to the talent and skill on display throughout the tournament, as well as the hard work and dedication of the players and teams involved.
