The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed sanctions on Samuel Eto’o, President of the Cameroon Football Association (FECAFOOT), citing ethical breaches.
In a statement released on Thursday, CAF accused Eto’o of “alleged manipulation of football matches and violating principles of ethics and integrity.” The former Barcelona striker has been fined $200,000 as a penalty.
The statement from CAF’s Disciplinary Board read, “The Board found Mr. Eto’o to have seriously violated the principles of ethics, integrity, and sportsmanship by signing a Brand Ambassador contract with the company 1XBET in exchange for remuneration.”

However, CAF clarified that there was insufficient evidence to prove allegations of match manipulation against Eto’o and Valentin Nkwain.
Since assuming office as FECAFOOT President in 2021, Eto’o has been no stranger to controversy. In 2022, he was captured on video assaulting a cameraman outside a stadium during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The following year, he faced a CAF investigation for alleged misconduct following complaints from various stakeholders in Cameroonian football.
