In a thrilling encounter on Saturday, Bayern Munich emerged victorious over RB Leipzig, with a 2-1 win.
Leading the charge for the Bavarians was Harry Kane, who scored two goals, including a stoppage-time winner.
This win comes as a much-needed relief for Bayern Munich, who had been on a losing streak in their previous three games in all competitions.
The match was crucial for Bayern, who are currently struggling to keep up with the league leaders, Bayer Leverkusen, and were desperate to break their losing streak.
The team had also recently announced that they would be parting ways with their coach, Thomas Tuchel, at the end of the season, making this an emotional week for the club.
After the match, Tuchel praised his team’s performance, saying, “We played a very good first half, but couldn’t take the lead. The second half was a bit complicated. We scored the opener when Leipzig were strong. We reacted well after the equalizer. The win was good for us after three defeats in a row.”
Bayern Munich is currently in second place, trailing behind Bayer Leverkusen by eight points. Leverkusen secured their top position with a 2-1 win over Mainz 05 the previous day.
Leipzig, on the other hand, remained in fifth place with 40 points.
Tuchel, however, remained humble, saying that talking about title chances at this point was superfluous.
“We don’t need to talk about that (title chances). We have to win every single game now. The situation is clear, Leverkusen has a big lead. Now we have to deal with this situation.”
Bayern Munich started strong, with Kane hitting the post with a fifth-minute header and coming close again with a bicycle kick.
Leipzig, however, put up a strong fight in the second half, testing keeper Manuel Neuer multiple times before Kane finally scored the opening goal of the match.
Leipzig, who are fighting for a top-four finish and a spot in next season’s Champions League, had two golden chances with Benjamin Sesko, but both times Neuer denied the Slovenian.
Bayern’s lead was short-lived, as Sesko’s shot took a slight deflection to wrong-foot Neuer, leading to an equalizer in the 70th minute.
However, Kane was able to come to the rescue once more with his 27th league goal of the season, drilling in a powerful low drive to snatch the three points for Bayern Munich.
