In a wild afternoon at the Allianz Arena, Harry Kane scored his second hat-trick of the Bundesliga season, including a stunning goal from his own half, as 10-man Bayern Munich bounced back from a goalless first 45 minutes to thrash nine-man Darmstadt 8-0.
The game started with a dramatic turn of events as Joshua Kimmich was sent off just four minutes into the game, after bringing down Marvin Mehlem at the edge of the area and deemed to have prevented a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Despite being down to 10 men, Bayern was awarded a penalty after Klaus Gjasula tripped Konrad Laimer.
However, the penalty was later overturned by referee Martin Petersen, who deemed the incident to have occurred outside the penalty area, resulting in Gjasula’s 21st-minute dismissal and a free-kick for the hosts.
Darmstadt held their own against the Bundesliga title-holders in the 10-v-10, even holding the shot advantage through the first 37 minutes.
However, the game took a turn when Matej Maglica was shown the red card after catching up with Kane in nearly the same spot as the previous red-card incident.
Despite being down to nine men, the visitors were able to sustain the deadlock until half-time, with both Kane and Leroy Sane coming close to scoring.
The second half saw Bayern dominate the game, with Kane breaking the deadlock six minutes after the restart with a diving header.
Five minutes later, Sane tapped home Laimer’s cross from six yards, extending the advantage to 2-0.

Then, it was 17-year-old Jamal Musiala’s turn, scoring his first of two goals with an assist from Kane, throwing open the floodgates in the process as Sane bagged his brace with an 18-yard strike past Schuhen four minutes later.
Kane then scored a world-class goal from just beyond the halfway line, sending Marcel Schuhen on a futile scramble as he watched the ball touch down in the back of his net.
Thomas Muller made it six with his first goal of the season before Musiala slotted past Schuhen for Bayern’s seventh.
The visitors’ keeper made a few good saves, but he could not keep out Kane, who completed his hat-trick with a perfect pass from Sane.
The game ended with Bayern securing their biggest win of the season, while Darmstadt suffered the heaviest defeat in their history.
The match will be remembered for the first time in German top-flight history that three men were sent off in the first half of a game.
