Bayero University Kano, celebrated it’s 38th convocation ceremony on Saturday, awarding degrees to 11,284 students in 18 faculties.
Following a successful and excellent completion of their studies, 180 students achieved first class honours, while an additional 5,432 graduands were conferred with higher degrees and postgraduate diplomas.
The institution also conferred honorary doctorate degrees upon Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau and the President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina.
President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Education Professor Tahir Mamman reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to promote education and sustainable development, highlighting ongoing efforts to revitalize vocational and Tsangaya centers, aiming to enhance education and expand skills among the youth in the country.
Speaking on the power challenges in universities, Tinubu stated that the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Education are collaborating to develop sustainable electricity using compressed natural gas, as an initiative aimed at boosting research activities in universities.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated the graduands and encouraged them to view themselves as leaders of tomorrow, stressing the importance of making the judicious use of their degrees.
Professor Sagir Abbas, Bayero University’s Vice Chancellor proudly announced that university is now ranked the 5th best university in Nigeria in the 2024 Universities Assessment ranking by Times Higher Education.
The VC emphasized the university’s commitment to enhance its global visibility and ensure quality education through improved facilities for teaching and research.
Also congratulating the graduands, the VC urged them to exhibit good behavior, having been recognized for their exemplary character and learning and ended by charging them to serve as worthy ambassadors of Bayero University wherever they may go.
