President Bola Tinubu has been re-elected as the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), almost one year after initially assuming the role.
The re-election took place during the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday.
In his opening remarks at the summit, President Tinubu emphasized the need for ECOWAS member states to make financial commitments to support the fight against terrorism in the region.

He highlighted the importance of substantial financial resources in operationalizing the ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF) to combat terrorism effectively.
“As we move to operationalise the ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF) in combating terrorism, I must emphasise that the success of this plan requires not only strong political will but also substantial financial resources,” Tinubu stated.
He further urged member states to meet the expectations and recommendations set by their ministers of defense and finance to counter insecurity and stabilize the region. “Member states must make extra commitments to providing resources for stabilising the region,” he added.
