TCN stated that the organized Labour’s planned strike led to the shutdown of the National Grid, causing a nationwide blackout.
Despite the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) calling off the strike, grid restoration is progressing slowly, with Shiroro Hydropower gradually resuming operations to power transmission lines.
Labour announced the suspension of the strike over minimum wage issues in a joint extraordinary National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday morning.
Following the closure of banks, schools, and government offices, among others, Labour leaders were summoned to a meeting at the Secretary to the Government of the Federation’s office.
The federal government and organized labour concluded the meeting on Monday night with an agreement on a new minimum wage to be set above N60,000.
The meeting’s statement partly read: “After the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage’s negotiation and Labour’s withdrawal, the National Assembly’s leadership intervened on June 2nd, 2024. Organized Labour then declared a nationwide strike on June 3rd, 2024, to emphasize its demands.
