Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, made headlines on Tuesday when he was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.
The arrest was in connection to an alleged failure to settle a debt related to the purchase of a luxury car.
Reports indicate that Portable acquired a G-Wagon for a substantial sum of N27 million (approximately $63,000).
At the time of purchase, he reportedly made a down payment of N13 million (roughly $30,000), leaving an outstanding balance of N14 million (about $33,000) unpaid.
It is alleged that despite the car dealer’s attempts to collect the remaining balance, Portable provided excuses, citing issues with the vehicle.
Unconvinced by Portable’s explanations, the car dealer resorted to legal action and filed a complaint with the Lagos State Police.
Subsequently, Portable was apprehended by law enforcement on Tuesday.
Confirming the arrest, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated,
“Yes, Portable has been arrested. He bought a G-Wagon for N27 million, paid N13 million, and refused to pay the rest, claiming the vehicle was faulty. We arrested him today.”
