The organised labour unions, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, have declared a nationwide strike over an attack on its president, Joe Ajaero.
The nationwide strike is to commence Wednesday November 8, 2023.
The Leadership of the NLC and TUC, announced this at a briefing in Abuja on Friday.
The union also gave the Federal Government a six point demand, including the immediate removal of the Imo State Police Commissioner and Area Commander with other officials, following their alleged involvement in the brutalisation and humiliation of Ajaero and other workers in Imo State on Wednesday.
CRUX NEWS recalls that Ajaero reportedly captured and brutalized during organised labour protest in Owerri, the state capital on Wednesday.
Ajaero was taken to custody by the Nigerian Police Force and later released with injuries on his face, revealing that he was beaten.
Speaking on the development on Thursday, the NLC publicity secretary, Benson Upah, said the Ajaero could not be treated at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri because of the degree of the injuries sustained during the scuffle, hence the need to flown him abroad.
