Government Promises Improved Power Supply by 2027
Despite the ongoing issues, the Nigerian government has set ambitious targets for power reliability. In November, President Bola Tinubu’s administration committed to providing at least 20 hours of daily electricity by 2027, but this goal is contingent on increased investment in the oil and gas sector.
Commitment from Tinubu’s Energy Adviser
Olu Verheijen, the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, made this promise at the Energy Week in Cape Town, South Africa. According to a statement from the State House Director of Information and Publicity, Abiodun Oladunjoye, Verheijen emphasized, “By 2027, Nigeria aims to ensure 20 hours of electricity daily for consumers in urban areas and industrial hubs.”
